USDA Seeks ‘Made in America’ Fertilizer Solution
The USDA has announced plans to put $250 million toward American-made fertilizer to give U.S. farmers more choices in the marketplace. According to the department, fertilizer prices have more than doubled since 2021.
鈥淩ecent supply chain disruptions from the global pandemic to Putin鈥檚 unprovoked war against Ukraine have shown just how important it is to invest in this crucial link in the agricultural supply chain here at home,鈥 said USDA鈥檚 Tom Vilsack. 鈥淲e are working to rebuild the economy toward resilience, security, and sustainability, and this is part of that effort.鈥
The program will support American fertilizer production that is independent, made in the U.S., innovative and sustainable, the announcement said.
The U.S. is the second or third top importer for each of the three major components of fertilizer.
