In our conversations with manufacturers at recent farm shows, we have learned they are borrowing equipment from nearby farmers to have something to show in this tighter-than-tight market.

Emily Grunewald with Big Iron said last week that Case IH withdrew from the show about a month before it opened because it didn’t have enough equipment. And, she has seen companies that usually bring 10 pieces to shows bring three instead.

Grunewald also has heard reports of exhibitors bringing in used equipment from local customers. She said the challenges go beyond demand.

“One of the challenges is the technology and the shortage of technology (like) microchips that are in that equipment such as tractors that there’s a shortage on,” she said. “And in the world we’re all facing right now, labor is a problem (as well).”
