Alberta: Changes to the Farm Implement Act

We have recently learned that of Changes to the Farm Implement Act in Alberta, Canada which consolidates the Farm Implement Dealerships Act with the Farm Implement Act, and makes numerous changes to the Farm Implement Act.

We are in the process of reviewing the changes with other associations and legal council and will provide members an analysis once that process has been completed.

One of our major concerns is the dealer termination and buyback language and the increase in penalty for noncompliance from  $50,000 to $100,000.

We have requested background information on the input that was obtained prior to passage, copies of public statements and any explanatory materials from the Alberta Government and have been told they will be provided.

Our contact in Alberta has stated that it is their hope to… "work toward a common set of legislation and policy for the three western provinces as that should benefit all parties."

A copy of Bill 6 is available on the Alberta Assembly's website.
